Parapente

A stage that arrives lightly on a slope. Parapente is a temporary structure built for the Piz Palü festival in Plan-les-Ouates, designed to inhabit a hillside without disrupting it, its timber posts planted directly into the ground, following the gradient rather than correcting it.

The roof is a layered system. Across its full surface, jute canvas sails are stretched between the timber frames of the structure, creating shade beneath an open, breathing canopy. At its centre, three bays are covered with galvanised steel sheets, forming a weathertight enclosure designed to shelter musicians and DJs performing below. From underneath, the undulating surface reads as a canopy in motion, carried by the same wind that animates a paraglider's wing.

Multi-purpose by design, the structure serves as a shaded vantage point from which festival-goers can watch the main stage from a distance, as well as an impromptu performance space, DJs set up beneath it between headliner sets, activating the hill itself as a stage.
